Meet John Karpinski – Associate Attorney

John “Jack” Karpinski is an associate at Karpinski, Cornbrooks & Karp. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation with an emphasis on state and local government official matters, election law issues, police liability litigation, and employment disputes. 

Jack graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2018 with degrees in Political Science and History and from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2021. Prior to joining the Firm, Jack clerked for the Honorable Andrea M. Leahy on the Appellate Court of Maryland (formerly the Court of Special Appeals) and the Honorable A. David Copperthite on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. 

He previously served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Robert N. McDonald on the Supreme Court of Maryland (formerly the Maryland Court of Appeals) and the Honorable Paul W. Grimm on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. He also worked at Karpinski, Cornbrooks & Karp as a summer associate in 2019 and 2020. 

During law school, Jack was selected as a member of the Maryland Law Review and served on the Executive Board for Volume 80 of the publication. Jack is the author of Rosales v. State: Time for a Change. Witness Impeachment by Use of a Prior Conviction Under Maryland Law, 79 MD. L. REV. ONLINE 101 (2020). While at Maryland Carey Law, Jack also served as a Legal Writing Fellow, Peer Advisor, and Research Assistant and was a member of the joint faculty-student Curriculum Committee. 

In addition to his work at Karpinski, Cornbrooks & Karp, Jack is active in the broader legal community. He currently serves as the Communications Committee Chair for the Cole-Davidson Appellate Inn of Court and is on the Executive Committee of the Honorable James McGill Inn of Court. He is an active member of the Howard County Bar Association and the Litigation and Young Lawyers Sections of the Maryland State Bar Association. Jack also participates in the Maryland Carey Law Alumni-Mentor Program. 

In his free time, Jack enjoys spending time with his family, exploring new restaurants, and playing golf. He is an avid supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Capitals, and Washington Commanders.
