Meet Horton J. McCormick, III

Horton McCormick is an associate at Karpinski, Cornbrooks & Karp. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2018 and to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland in 2024. His practice focuses on civil litigation with an emphasis on state and local government matters.



Horton graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2015 with a degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in Film.  He then graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2018, with a specialization in Litigation and Advocacy. 


During law school, Horton was a Rule 16 Student Attorney at the University of Baltimore’s Civil Advocacy Clinic, where he represented clients in various types of civil litigation. He was also a competitor for the University of Baltimore’s National Trial Competition Team, and he spent his summers clerking for various law firms and the Johns Hopkins Health System legal department.

Prior to working at Karpinski, Cornbrooks & Karp, Horton started his legal career as an associate attorney for the Social Security Administration, where he drafted disability decisions for administrative law judges across the country. Interested in pursuing career in litigation, he left the Federal Government to pursue a career as a litigation attorney in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, where he has spent the past several years litigating personal injury disputes, real property disputes, title disputes, landlord/tenant actions for possession, and commercial and consumer debt collection actions. Horton also has experience advising large commercial and residential multi-family clients on legislative changes related to property management and legal compliance. 



Outside of work, Horton enjoys volunteering for and participating in various law-related organizations including the Maryland State Bar Association, Baltimore County Bar Association, Baltimore City Bar Association, and the MYlaw Mock Trial Program. He is also a frequent volunteer judge for various invitational college and law school mock trial competitions, where he provides feedback to students looking to become future litigators.


Horton was born and raised in the suburbs of Baltimore City, and he met his wife while they both attended law school at the University of Baltimore School of Law. In his free time, he is an avid motorsports fan and supporter of various international circuit and endurance racing teams. Horton also enjoys spending time with his family watching films, cooking, hiking, traveling, and attending concerts.
